Toward Solar Decathlon China 2017 - Official agreement for collaboration between POLITO and SCUT

September 23, 2016. Solar Decathlon (SD) SCUT-POLITO Joint Team’s launch ceremony was held at the Lecture Hall, Building no.6, South China University of Technology at Guangzhou.

The attendees included: Acting Deputy Director of School of Architecture SCUT - Prof. Sun Yimin, Secretary of the Party Committee - Si Jumin, Vice Secretary of the Party Committee - Luo Lihong, Academic Advisor for POLITO’s team - Professor Mauro Berta, representative of the Commercial Section of the Italian Consulate—Miss Gloria Plazzotta, representative from the cultural section of the Italian Consulate - Miss Cristina Huang, eco-architecture pioneer enterprises’ representatives, media representatives, instructors of the joint team, team members from China and Italy.

Professor Sun Yimin on behalf of SCUT and Professor Mauro Berta on behalf of POLITO made remarks respectively. On the one hand, they reviewed the results that SCUT achieved in 2013 for taking the second place in the competition and the close cooperation between SCUT and POLITO through South China Torino Collaboration Lab in recent years. On the other hand, they encouraged the team to promote innovation by means of a wise combination of morphology and technology.

The two teams signed then the general agreement of cooperation to the project “House New”.

After that, representatives of the joint team and the enterprises attended the Roundtable Forum and they had a lively discussion on the subject of the sponsorship program, technological support, and school-enterprise cooperation. Yan Pingyu, from Overseas Department of China Construction Forth Engineering Division Corp, which is the general contractor of the 2013 competition, expressed his support for the joint teams’ construction project in 2017. Not only some renowned constructional elements vendors such as Velux and Lisheng Corp but also alumni enterprises like Three River Field Corp and Daxi Energy Saving Corp provided a significant amount of useful advices and suggestions. 

With the help of worlwide state-of–the-art research and design groups and their technologies and creativity, SDC aims at building a unified solar powered residential building provided with a full functional equipment in terms of furniture, plants, domotics etc., livable and sustainable, placed into the real context of the new urbanization and technologcally innovative. Team SCUT-POLITO has successfully passed the preliminary contest in April 2016 and it entered to the final contest. On September 20th, the members of SCUT’s team welcomed the teachers and students from Politecnico di Torino, Italy. Team SCUT-POLITO carried out a period of five intensive days of joint workshop from 20th to 25th September in the No.27 building studio, promoting the plans of the competition together. Two presentations of the scheme were given by the studio, and stage results were achieved. Professor Mauro Berta and Michele Bonino were invited to give on the 22nd an academic lecture titled “Beyond the performative shape. Energy efficiency as a morphological task”. The cooperation of team SCUT-POLITO is going to continue via online platform, and looking forward to the next meeting.
