ZHAOQING NEW TOWN – SCTCL Delegation visit

Published: 04/10/2016
Between the 26th and the 27th of September a delegation of the South-China Collaboration Lab has visited the Administration of the Zhaoqing New Town in Guangdong Province.

The relationship between Politecnico di Torino and Zhaoqing Government is long confirmed, spanning from urban planning consultant and as experts involved in the restoration of the ancient city walls. The delegation had the possibility to have a trip together with Miss Liu Yan, Chief Planner of the Zhaoqing New Town Planning Bureau, along the many construction siteworks occurring in the area.

The fast growing process of the city, by now focused in infrastructure and main public building projects, gave the possibility to collect important material to be inserted in the CeNTO – Chinese New TOwns research Project, lead by Politecnico di Torino, based on the analyses of many New Town case studies all along China. The first day has ended with a special visit to the Yanzhou Island, a rural based reservoir inside the administration boundary of the New Town that will be invested in a comprehensive refurbishment in the next future.

The visit was also fruitful to share with Zhaoqing Mayor some ideas about the future planning of the Yanzhou Island, where the roles of the local communities and smart mobility are crucial for the relationship between the fragile river environment and the future New Town.
